It is located three miles from Bella Bella on Denny Island.〔(BCNames/GeoBC entry "Shearwater (locality)" )〕 It is in the territory of the Heiltsuk Nation. == History == Shearwater was originally built as an antisubmarine bomber reconnaissance post in 1941 and then abandoned in 1944. It was then purchased and developed into a fishing resort with a full service marina, fishing resort, restaurant and hotel. The hangar and the airstrip are all that survive from the original base.
